Workshops
Due
to the strong commitment by the Company to the idea that drama and related
activities should be accessible and available to everyone, we have been
involved in running a variety of workshops in the community for schools,
youth clubs and community groups.
Out of Order
From November 2002 YWT in partnership
with Victim Support, Leeds Childrens Fund and CASAC toured a participatory
drama workshop -"Out of Order".
"Out of Order" explored a childs experience of crime and
its impact on child victims. The workshop was accompanied by a teachers
workpack with practical ideas, lesson plans and exercises for pre and
post work. The workshop and teachers pack linked directly to aspects of
the National Curriculum at Key Stage 2. 61 Workshops were delivered to
approximately 2000 young people aged 8-11.
"Rosie thinks the badmen have stolen her Granny
along with their T.V.;
Ben is feeling the pressure of being the man of the house
;
Sam tries to help but makes things worse and Asha just wants
her walkman back.
They all feel its their fault and no one is getting a good nights
sleep!
The workshop focussed on bullying/ burglary and domestic violence and
looked at strategies for prevention and support - from victim to survivor.
"They
enjoyed involvement and showed keen interest; both as a piece of drama
and as a learning experience".
